Arizona Daily Star – Glassman airs first television ad in Senate Democrat race
August 12, 2010
Democrat Rodney Glassman debuted his first television ad in Phoenix this week — the first from a Democrat challenging U.S. Sen. John McCain in more than 20 years, Glassman’s campaign said.
The 30-second spot started airing this morning on news shows in the Phoenix and Tucson areas.
Glassman’s campaign says his television ad is a significant development in the race.
“This ad highlights the fact that John McCain has spent the last 28 years ignoring Arizona,” said Tina May, campaign spokeswoman, in a news release. “It’s time we elect a U.S. Senator who will put Arizona first.”
The ad features Glassman’s endorsement from the Arizona Republic, his Air Force Reserve work and references to the Glassman Foundation, which raises money for children and community events.
John Dougherty, one of three others in the race, announced today he purchased ad space on an electronic billboard near the junction of Interstates 10 and 17 in Phoenix.
The advertising is likely a nod at polls which have shown many voters don’t know the four Democrat primary candidates. Glassman, Dougherty, Randy Parraz and Cathy Eden are competing for the nomination Aug. 24.
